JULIE WILLIAMS DIXON

I am from southwest Virginia in the Appalachian mountains, but for many years have made my home in Raleigh, North Carolina. I’m a producer/director/editor, a still photographer, and a writer. I’m also an avid gardener, a reader of poetry, a yoga practitioner and teacher. Add to all that wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

I studied Communications and Marketing at Virginia Tech, where I made my first few short films. Later I obtained a Master’s degree in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures from UNC at Chapel Hill. I’m ever so thankful for my access to formal education. However, much of what shaped me was my upbringing in the mountains by parents who worked hard, grew a big garden, and then occasionally got to enjoy a long ride thru the countryside on Sunday afternoons. That’s where I learned to observe and tell stories.

I’ve had a fulfilling career helping organizations tell their stories well. And telling a few of my own along the way.

Besides work, I leave time to walk in the woods, play in creeks, sit by a fire, and grow as much food and flowers possible in my urban setting. I approach each day and each opportunity with a “beginners mind.”
